Rental screening guide
Renting in Japan without an emergency contact
Many rental applications ask for an emergency contact. This is not always the same as a guarantor, but missing one can still make screening harder.
Applicants without a local emergency contact should prepare stronger proof of identity, employment or school enrollment, income, residence status, and communication reliability.
Some agencies and property managers are more flexible, especially when a guarantor company is accepted. The key is to avoid applying randomly and first identify the likely screening bottleneck.
